     Every summer I have a goal of getting the heck out of town. I don’t hate my hometown. My hometown is actually pretty great, I just like traveling. Here are some ways I have been able to travel affordably or even for free. How I’ve traveled for free.      Not everyone is a celebrity or media star with sponsors flying them around the globe. (Really wish I was, would be nice.) However, there are opportunities for us average people to travel for free. Maybe your school has a club or program wanting to take students to another city for a week or two. There are also outside things like leadership camps, internships, or residencies. Last year I did a month long artist residency in NYC and a few years before that a leadership camp in Chicago. Some work was required, but for the most part, I paid little to nothing.        Having to move into a new dorm or apartment is already super expensive. Wasting money on things you thought you needed is the last thing you want to do. You can still have all the essential dorm/apartment items for less money. Here are a couple of items I have in my cyber space shopping cart that I have price checked and researched on.  Shower Caddy Price: $5        This is great for organizing your products and other hygiene stuff. I definitely recommend this if you share a bathroom or are using a communal bathroom. Crock-Pot Price: $10        Slow cookers are great for making meals. You can get this one for $10 o r get it in black for $2 dollars more. F ilter Water Bottle Price: $9        Most Brita filter pitchers are around $20 and a lot of normal water bottles are around $8. Eating at home is cheaper, healthier, and cleaner but sometimes you just want to be lazy or try something new. It's very possible to eat out for less than $10 without resorting to fast food. Here are a couple smart ways to spend and save money while eating out. Order a Cup of Water Yay water! It's FREE! Also, if you're trying something new you don’t want a coke distracting your taste buds from the taste of the food. But if you really want soda, just buy a litter on the way home. Order To-Go (then size up) Let's say you bought a small salad. When ordering to-go you can ask them to put it in a large box instead. Sometimes the people taking care of your order are too busy and just fill the container. You can get more than what you paid for, yay! Also, you don’t have to tip the waiter since you don't have one.         This blog is my attempt to stay hip and cool while spending the least amount of money possible.  Join me in trying to be relevant and cheap.        Living in a consumeristic lifestyle, it's easy to feel like you need to buy the next best thing. But I've noticed living like that can be very wasteful and also cost more money than is necessary. I would like to create a community where we can help each other buy products without being wasteful or feel like we have to sacrifice all of our money for high-end products. I want to encourage a lifestyle where we don't feel deprived and can live comfortably no matter our means. I will be sharing things I hav e been learning along the way on my mission to creating a lifestyle that is less wasteful as well as practical and inexpensive.
